Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals in Scarborough are governed by a Rental Agreement issued upon booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This document outlines the terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your responsibilities for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To hire a vehicle in Scarborough, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type. Drivers under 25 may incur extra charges. A valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. Valid payment information and a security deposit are also necessary, along with any additional requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Scarborough office. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. The remaining balance and security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, please conduct a comprehensive inspection and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be created and must be signed by both parties. It is required that you return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at pickup; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. You will be held responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or related charges incurred during your rental, in addition to an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms

Additional insurance options may be offered to minimize your financial liability. It’s beneficial to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless further insurance is purchased. Responsibility for damage resulting from negligence or misuse rests with you, regardless of any insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For accurate information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses for Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting to third parties or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Vehicles should only be used for their intended purposes, and passenger or weight limits must not be exceeded. Driving outside the agreed geographical areas requires prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Scarborough is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the rental amount you paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.

These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in this region.
